Server Virtualization & Cloud Computing

Enterprise Server Virtualization began in the data center to reduce physical server footprint in an already crowded space. The consolidation of resources onto fewer physical machines, and the ability to cluster these physical machines to provide high availability, has driven IT departments to virtualize as much of their infrastructure as possible. Being able to dynamically allocate workloads across virtual clusters has further increased efficiency and even helped in Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity plans. The management of virtual infrastructure has become key as the number of virtual servers grows in the data center.

SecureTek has years of experience in virtualization technology from Operating System Level and Container Virtualization (such as Solaris Zones and Virtuozzo Containers) through stand alone Hypervisor based Virtualization (such as VMware ESX, Citrix XenServer and Microsoft Hyper-V). This virtualization experience, coupled with deep experience with infrastructure management platforms such as VMware's vSphere and the Eucalyptus Project have allowed us to become a premier trusted resource in the Cloud Computing space as well.

Desktop Virtualization

Server virtualization in the Data Center eventually raised questions about the possible application on the desktop side. This is how virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) came to the forefront. As it turns out, most businesses have modest needs at the end user desktop. The vast majority of end users require simple word processing, spread sheet, presentation, email, and web browser applications. Even the more demanding applications such as design applications, integrated development environments, communications applications, or custom database backed applications run well on modest hardware. End users in the services industry such as telemarketing, phone based customer service, web based customer service, and face to face customer service use custom applications that are light on front-end resource consumption. Industries such as banking, retail, online sales and all others with point of sales terminals have similar needs.

All of these applications are perfect for virtualization because they often require few resources and they are identical as deployed from end user to end user. This allows for a single image (known as a gold image in the industry) to be deployed to each end user within a certain department, company or industry. The management of the end user machine now moves from the desktop to the data center. Central configuration management is now possible from a single interface, allowing IT staff to work on other projects and respond faster to support requests. Pair this virtual desktop technology with secure thin client technology from our vendor partners, and you have a powerful yet flexible solution that even the U.S. Government utilizes because of the level of security and cost savings involved.

Let us show you how Server Virtualization, Cloud Computing and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) can increase your productivity, reduce the total cost of ownership of your infrastructure and increase the return on investment in that same infrastructure.
